Oct 5 Shiny New Banner, and Other News
It’s still midweek, isn’t it? I’m calling this a midweek update.
Got a bit of news to relay to you. First point is that, although it wasn’t officially announced on the front page, if you were looking forward to the Steins;Gate marathon happening soon, I’m afraid it’s been cancelled, due to a lack of source material. Sorry about that.
Secondly, and considerably more importantly, is that planning is well underway for our 20th anniversary show! From 12PM to midnight on Saturday, October 27, come to the Arts Lecture Hall for a full day of anime, gaming, and all sorts of other fun activities. It’s free and open to people of all ages. Past members, current members, or not members at all, it doesn’t matter; come celebrate 20 years of CTRL-A! All the info is available on our dedicated page here. Current members, if you want to get involved in the planning and volunteer to help run events, check out the planning forum here.
In other news, The G33K Art Show is happening again this year: November 24 and 25 at Kitchener City Hall, and they’re looking for artists to operate booths there. It’s organizer, Miroki Tong, has provided some details which I’ll post after the break below. In addition to this, she is also seeking submissions for a showcase of art featured at the Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema (WFAC). To avoid cluttering the main page, these details can be found past the break.
That’s all from me. I’ll be back in a few days with next week’s rundown.

THE G33K ART SHOW 2012 – Call for Submission Round 2
After a phenomenal year in 2011, The G33K Art Show is pleased to announce that we are happening for a second year. We have expanded from our studio space of the lovely Kaufman Arts Studio to the Kitchener City Hall. We are not only showcasing art this year, but also bringing in guests such as Schuster award winning Scott Chantler, established voice actor Lawrence Bayne, and more!
THE G33K ART SHOW seeks to provide opportunities to emerging artists of comic, sci-fi, fantasy, animation and other alternative branches by offering a chance to showcase their work in an artistic setting.
The show also wishes to disseminate and educate the audience about the uniqueness of “geek” culture and bridge the gap between this culture and conventional art. There are also opportunities to reach new audiences with the rising interest in classic “geek” culture in the mainstream audience through Hollywood movies.
Finally, THE G33K ART SHOW seeks to increase exposure and offer support for the development of the independent community for the artists of “geek” culture.
I am letting CTRL-A members be the first to know that I am opening up for Round 2 Artist Applications, with limited space left! More details can be found on www.jacques-trades.com. As former member of CTRL-A, and still an avid supporter, I know of the amazing talent that usually can be found with its members, and I look forward to your submissions.
Thank you, and good luck!
