How did everyone’s week go? I hope everyone had a wonderful time at all of our awesome events, especially the recent show 3. Looking forward, we have a typical week coming up as we head towards our final show of the term. Here’s what you can expect for this week:

  • Tory’s Mini Halloween Bash – Monday, October 31, 5PM, Tory’s place. Our e-comm officer, Tory, is putting together a small Halloween event. If you’re interested, email her for details and directions.
  • Tuesday Meeting – Tuesday, November 1, 6:00PM, MC 1056. Take note, this week’s meeting is on Tuesday due to the Halloween Monday. Of interest this week is the vote for the prize in the Weiss Schwarz tournament, so if you’re interested, be sure to show up and vote.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, November 2, 6:00PM, SLC 2109. Lots of great gaming and general socialization to be had here. Good times for all involved, so don’t miss project night this Wednesday.
  • Games Night – Friday, November 4, 4:30PM, ML 354. All sorts of gaming, from handheld to tabletop to card-based games, can be played here. If you like games, then be sure to come out.

That’s all for this week. Next week is show 4, so look forward to it!

Halloween Means More CTRL-A

What’s that? Halloween, you say? I can’t hear you over our awesome show 3 weekend. Last week we had the special Giant Robo Marathon, and now CTRL-A, the anime club that knows no bounds, jumps into the third consecutive weekend of anime. And it’s definitely one you don’t want to miss! More on that below, along with the week’s other exciting events.

  • Monday Meeting – Monday, October 24, 6PM, MC 4058. Please note the different room, which applies to this meeting only. This meeting will mostly be discussing plans for show 3, followed by dinner and an activity. If you haven’t been coming out to meetings, consider it. They can be a lot of fun and you’ll be hanging out with a lot of the same people you see at other events.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, October 26, 6PM, SLC 2109. What can be said that hasn’t been? If you haven’t been yet, don’t be scared away by the prospect of doing work. There’s more gaming than anything else here, and when someone brings a project it’s often something fun. Good times are to be had Wednesday evenings, so don’t miss it!
  • Show 3 – Friday, October 28, 4:30PM to 10PM, RCH 101 and Saturday, October 29, 2:30PM to 9PM, AL 116. It’s time to get down and watch some anime. We’ll be continuing some shows from our last show, as well as introducing some new ones, so don’t worry if you missed the previous shows. The schedule, once finalized, will be available here. As announced last week, there will be a cosplay contest during the dinner break on Friday. Come out in your best costume and enter to win a great prize, or just come to see all the crazy costumes. There will likely be an activity on Saturday as well. And as usual, we’ll be running our concession stand (cup noodles!) and be ordering pizza for dinner on both days. There will also be a NEW MEMBER BONUS!!! Friday only, if you bring a new member to the club and they purchase a membership, you and your friend will receive a free slice of pizza.
  • Weiss Schwarz Tournament – Saturday, October 29, 11AM to 3PM, AL 208. The Weiss Tournament extravaganza continues this weekend with the third tournament of the term. If you’re interested in playing, you can sign up here. You don’t need to have played in the previous tournaments to sign up. Will can even lend you a deck to use. All you need is a working knowledge of the game, which you can obtain during project nights or games nights by asking around for help. So come on out and have a great time.

That’s all for this week. Now indulge me as I draw your attention to our forums. If you haven’t signed up for our forums yet, please do consider it. There’s lots of discussion to be had there. Here’s some of the things you can look for:

  • Karaoke Request Thread: Coming up at the end of November will be our once-a-term karaoke night. It’s not mandatory, but we prefer that people request songs ahead of time so we can be prepared. If you know what songs you’d like to sing, request them in this thread.
  • Secret Santa: We’re putting together a club-wide secret Santa. If buying a gift for a random person and receiving a gift from a random person sounds like fun, sign up. Be sure to tell people what your interests are, since the person who gets you might not know you.
  • Introduction Thread: If you’re new to the forums and want to tell everyone a bit about yourself, then stop over in the intro thread. Even if you aren’t that new, you can make a post and make yourself known to the world.
  • Marketplace: Less a thread and more of a sub-forum, this is where we coordinate group purchases from various online stores such as Hobby Search and AmiAmi. If you’re interested in placing an order but high shipping costs scare you away, order with other people and split the shipping costs.

That should be enough to get you started. Also, be warned that the next meeting is on Tuesday, due to the Halloween Monday. (It’s not a holiday but we assume that people might have plans.) Have a great week!

With Show 2 behind us, we’ve reached the halfway point of the term. I hope everyone had a lot of fun with it.

Looking forward to this weekend, we have another special treat for you, a Giant Robo marathon. More on that, and our other events for the week, below:

  • Monday Meeting – Monday, October 17, 6:00PM, MC 4063. We have our usual weekly meeting where we’ll discuss various happenings within the club. This is often followed by a fun activity and dinner, so it’s a fun evening with CTRL-A.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, October 19, 6:00PM, SLC 2109. If you want to socialize with some fun people, or are looking for an audience for your project-based shenanigans, come out to the SLC this Wednesday.
  • Games Night – Friday, October 21, 4:30PM, ML 354. In the mood for some games? Of course you are. That’s why you’ll be going to games night this week. Come play whatever games you like.
  • Giant Robo Marathon – Sunday, October 23, 1:00PM to 10:00PM, AL 113. We’re putting together a special show for you this Sunday. We’ll be watching the entirety of the anime Giant Robo in one marathon session. If that is relevant to your interests, then be sure to make it out for this.

And that is the week’s events. Full of games and giant robots, it’s sure to be an interesting week. The following weekend (right before Halloween) we’ll be having Show 3, and on Friday, October 28 we’ll be having a cosplay contest on the dinner break of that show. If you already have a costume put together for Halloween, you can just wear that. Or whatever costume you like, we’re not picky. A prize will probably be given out to the winner.

That’s it. Have a fun week!

NOTE: Show 2 on Friday will be starting 30 minutes later than usual, at 5pm. It is also in an unusual location, PHY 150. If you are unsure how to reach this room, contact ctrl-a@ctrl-a.org for further details.

If you’re short on things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, then you can be thankful for CTRL-A. We’re all excited to bring you the second main anime show of the term, the aptly named Show 2, this weekend. Here’s all the details for this week:

  • Tuesday Meeting – Tuesday, October 11, 6:00PM, MC 4063. The usual meeting business. Planning for the upcoming show, possibly followed by an activity, and dinner. Fun times for all. Fun, mildly bureaucratic times.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, October 12, 6:00PM, SLC 2109. Is Project Night different this week? Probably not. But that means it’s as fun as always, right? Come out to chat and play games with some awesome people. Maybe bring a project? Your call.
  • Show 2 – Friday, October 14, 5:00PM to 10:30PM, PHY 150 and Saturday, October 15, 2:30PM to 9PM, MC 2065. Exciting, very exciting. I’m looking forward to it, and you should be too. It’s our anime show! Spanning two days, we’ll be showing a multitude of anime. As usual, in addition to watching more of our regular series, we’ll be sampling a few new ones as well, and there will be a movie event. On both days we’ll take pizza orders on the dinner break, and do some sort of activity. The detailed schedule is available in this thread. Don’t miss it!
  • Weiss Schwarz Tournament – Saturday, October 15, 11AM to 3PM, MC 2035. As mentioned previously, every single one of our anime shows will be accompanied by a Weiss Schwarz tournament, and this one is no exception! If you’re interested, then head to this thread for all the details. We’re still taking registrations, so definitely sign up if you can play.

For a shortened week, it is certainly dense with a lot of fun events. No matter what your otaku tastes may be, there’s bound to be something of interest, so come on out and have a great time!

Now that show 1 has actually passed, I can say with confidence that the awesome thing totally happened. But I’m sure you remember all about it, don’t you?

Thanksgiving is approaching, and that means a light week here at CTRL-A. As such, I’m gonna be quick with you.

  • Monday Meeting – Monday, October 3, 6PM, MC 4063. Business as usual.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, October 5, 6PM, SLC 2109.
  • Games Night – Friday, October 7, 4:30PM, ML 354. Attendance may be low, because people may be going home for Thanksgiving weekend. But feel free to come out anyway, there should be some locals around.

That’s all for this week. It’s short, I know, but we’ll have more for you starting next week. Also, I’ll announce it properly in the next news update, but the next meeting (the one after Thanksgiving) is taking place on Tuesday, October 11, due to the Monday holiday.
