And so, another term draws to a close…

Well, wasn’t that exciting? Our super-awesome end-of-term weekend has drawn to a close. I hope all of you had a great time!

Unfortunately, we’ve reached the saddest part… funny thing about end-of-term events is that they mark the end of the term. Meaning, CTRL-A closes up shop for the rest of the summer. We’ll be back in full force for the Fall term starting in September, but for now, all we have remaining is one last Monday Meeting, taking place Monday, July 25 at 6:00PM in Room MC 4063. We’ll be discussing how the last weekend went, and planning show dates for next term, as well as other general term conclusion stuff. There may also be leftovers from the barbecue, so be sure to make it out for the last official club gathering this summer.

Jeremy is still planning to hang out in SLC 2109 every Wednesday at 6PM, so essentially what that means is that Project Night will continue. If playing games and working on projects is your thing, come hang out with us in the SLC in August.

This is probably gonna be the last news post from me until September, so have a great August, and hopefully I’ll see you on the other side.

With Show 4 wrapped up, I’m sure some of you are a bit depressed. After all, it’ll be about 2 months before we have show 1 of the Fall 2011 term.  But fear not! For this week, we send the term off with style, as we hold our amazing end-of-term extravaganza! Four events across three days will make sure you don’t miss us over the summer break. Here’s all the awesome stuff you can expect:

  • Monday Meeting – Monday, July 18, 6:00PM, Room MC 4063. At this meeting, we’ll be making sure everything is ready for the upcoming weekend. Also, I was ambushed by at least three different people during the show asking me to add something to the agenda, so we’ll have lots to talk about. This is the second-last meeting of the term.
  • Project Night - Wednesday, July 20, 6:00PM, Room SLC 2109. Project night draws to an anti-climactic finish this Wednesday. We don’t have the room booked anymore starting next week, so this is your last chance to get together and play games, do projects, etc. Don’t miss it.
  • Karaoke Night – Friday, July 22, 4:30PM, Room MC 2065. Once every term, the club gets together to sing anime-related music. Don’t worry, it’s embarrassing for all of us. If you would like to get in on the action ahead of time, you can tell me what you want in this forum thread, so I can have it ready for you.
  • Potluck/Barbecue – Saturday, July 23, 4:00PM, Waterloo Park. The location is the same as the starting point for survival tag. (See this thread.) We’ll get together in the park and eat some delicious food, maybe get some exercise, and have a great time. Since it’s a potluck, the food is supplied by those attending. Let us know what you’re bringing in this forum thread, so we know what we’re missing.
  • Survival Tag – Saturday, July 23, after the potluck/barbecue, Waterloo Park. It’s moving off campus to Waterloo Park. All the details can be found here, but to summarize, it’s a mix between a scavenger hunt and tag, with an anime twist. It’s lots of fun, so be sure to stick around after we eat.
  • Anime Marathon – Sunday, July 24, 11:00AM, EIT 1015. For the third term in a row, Jon is running the External Relations Officer General Entertainment Marathon (EROGEM for short). This edition is titled “EROGE 360 Port,” and as in the past will offer a full day of anime for your viewing pleasure. The schedule details can be found here.

How’s that for a great week, huh? We still have one more meeting the following week, but this is mostly it for this term, so make sure you come out! I expect to see every one of you this weekend! If not, there will be a punishment game, and you don’t want to know what that is… Just come, for both of our sakes.

We’re reaching the climactic finish of the season. Just two more weekends to go, but trust me when I say we have a ton in store for you. This week is book-ended by the final of our always popular anime shows, so you’ll get to see the conclusion of all the anime you’ve enjoyed over the term. There’s more going on this week as well. Check out the full details here:

  • Monday Meeting – Monday, July 11, 6:00PM, Room MC 4063. Nothing major on the agenda for this one, just further planning for our final show and the amazing EOT extravaganza the following week. More on that later.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, July 13, 6:00PM, Room SLC 2109. Same as it’s always been. Come on by and hang out with some fun people. Play a few games, have a few laughs. Good, friendly fun for all.
  • Show 4 – Friday, July 15, 4:30PM to 10:00PM and Saturday, July 16, 2:30PM to 9:00PM, Room MC 2065. This is it, folks. The fourth show of the term marks the conclusion of several continuing series you’ve come to enjoy. The schedule is available here. We will also be serving free hot chocolate throughout the show on both days.
  • In addition to this, during the dinner break for the Friday show (from approximately 6:30PM to 7:20PM) will be a cosplay contest! Bring your best costumes to the table, and if your costume is voted most popular, you win a prize!
  • Chaos Tournament – Saturday, July 16, 10:00 AM, Room MC 2035. Details and sign-up are available here. This is the second of two anime-based trading card game tournaments organized by CTRL-A.

There’s an exciting week to look forward to. And the pace doesn’t slow down for long. Here’s a quick rundown of the events planned for next weekend.

  • Karaoke – Come sing with us! Let us know what you plan to sing here, and we can prepare it for you.
  • Survival Tag – Details are pending, but here’s last term’s thread to give you an idea of what to expect.
  • Potluck/Barbecue – We’re breaking out the club barbecue for some outdoor fun! If you’re coming, you have to bring something! Tell us what you’re bringing here.
  • Anime Marathon – Tentatively known as EROGE 360 Port, our External Relations Officer, Jon, will be running an anime marathon for the third term in a row. Details are still TBA, but stay tuned.

How’s that? Too much stuff? Probably too much stuff, but there’s no such thing as too much fun! Don’t miss it!

It’s a slow build to the end of the term, which means we don’t have anything outside the norm going on this week. Here’s what you can expect.

  • Monday Meeting – Monday, July 4, 6:00PM, Room MC 4063. We’ll be looking ahead to our final show and all the awesome end-of-term events we have planned. If you want to be in on the planning for that, be sure to make it to our meeting.
  • Project Night – Wednesday, July 6, 6:00PM, Room SLC 2109. There’s really nothing that can be said that hasn’t been already. We’ll be getting together and hanging out in the SLC, playing some games, and perhaps working on some ongoing projects. If you have any such projects, a propensity towards helping others, or just want to socialize in a friendly setting, then come on by.
  • Games Night – Friday, July 8, 4:30PM, Room MC 4058. If you missed your chance to play some games over the long weekend, we hear you. This is our last games night for the term, so if you’re eager to play some card games, board games, role playing games, or video games, we can surely help you out.
  • Cosplay Tea Party – Saturday, July 9, 1:00PM, Amy’s Place. One last time! We’ll be gathering for the usual shenanigans at Amy’s. Check the FAQ for directions.

That’s all for this week. Next week, we have our final show of the term, and with it, we have our Chaos tournament on Saturday, July 16. Details and sign-up is available here. Make sure you sign up in advance if you want to play.

The following week, we are planning our end-of-term extravaganza. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be chock full of CTRL-A goodness, including karaoke, survival tag, our barbecue, and Jon’s EROGE anime marathon. Please visit the karaoke thread on the forum to request songs you wish to sing. Visit the barbecue thread if you wish to bring anything; please let us know so we know what we’re missing. Information for the anime marathon is available in the EROGE thread. I’ll talk to someone about getting a new survival tag thread put up for the rules on that.

It’s gonna be awesome, so don’t miss it!
