Mar 25 Wrapping Things Up

The Winter 2012 term is coming to a close. No more interesting events left to take place.
Did you believe me for a minute? We won’t end without some fun, so coming up this weekend are our always-fun end-of-term events, karaoke and hot pot! More details below:
- Monday Meeting: Monday, March 26, 6PM, MC 4063. This is our second to last meeting of the term, which should be filled with discussion of the following events.
- Project Night: Wednesday, March 28, 6PM, SLC 2133. Yes, project night again. Always project night
And then…
- Karaoke Night: Friday, March 30, 4:30PM, DC 1351. This is the once-a-term event where all our members come and make fools of themselves in front of a large audience. Unless you’re a good singer, of course. But it’s all in good fun anyway. If you are itching for anime-themed karaoke, go to this forum thread and request music so we can have it ready for you at the event.
- Hot Pot: Saturday, March 31, Karl’s Place. Same deal as last term, for those who were there. We’ll all get together mid-afternoonish, and have hot pot. Then we play games and socialize until late. Tons of fun, so be sure to be there. If you have any questions, such as how to get to Karl’s, ask them in this thread.
And that will conclude another amazing term in CTRL-A. The following week will feature one last Monday meeting (an important one, so don’t dismiss it) but I’ll talk more about that next weekend. For now, enjoy the great events we have planned for you to end the term, and try not to worry about impending exams. Studying is for people who don’t sing and eat hot pot.

And there goes show 4, off into the ether, never to return…until next term when we have four more shows, of course. But just because the anime is over, doesn’t mean we still can’t have some fun. We have some awesome EOT events like karaoke and hot pot on their way. And of course, we have our regular events as well! Take a look:
- EMC Meeting: Monday, March 19, 6:30PM, MC 4063. Same place, different idea. The first half hour will presumably be regular meeting business. Starting at 7pm, we will be addressing the issue of allowing EMC to continue to use Emiko. Some representatives from EMC will also be present at the meeting. If you want to have your say in this issue, everyone is welcome, so you should come.
- Project Night: Wednesday, March 21, 6PM, SLC 2133. Nothing to see here. No special activity planned. Just socializing and games.
- Mini Cosplay Panel: Wednesday, March 21, 7PM, SLC 2136. Amy will be bringing all her awesome wigs and talking about them. Anyone who can make a wig of this character probably knows what she’s talking about, so listen to her impart her wisdom this Wednesday.
- Games Night: Friday, March 23, 4:30PM, PHY 313. More games, in the straightforwardly named games night. Come hang out and play all the games.
That’s it for this week. It’s a short one, but we’re building up to some good stuff later.
Also, the results of my competition. Few entered, as expected. Here are the entries:
bluemage: “We only trust Bulbasaur.” –There’s a really random story behind this. Ask him if you want to know more.
Will: “I have commented.” –Truer words have never been said.
And I’ll leave you with that. Until next week.

Mar 11 Something Clever

This week delivers us our final anime show for the term. It is the always wonderful, yet always ominous Show 4 weekend. Wonderful because we get to watch more of the great anime we love, but it is of course our last show for the term. Until then, we have the following events to amuse and entertain:
- Monday Meeting: Monday, March 12, 6PM, MC 4063. Of course, we kick off every week with our regular meeting. Come talk of planning for show 4. And other such delights.
- Poster Making: Monday, March 12, 6:30PM to 9PM, SLC Clubs Resource Room. Branching off from the meeting, some dedicated club members will be going to make poster(s). If you’re interested, offer your services after the meeting.
- Project Night: Wednesday, March 14, 6PM, SLC 2133. And yes, once again, project night rears its head this Wednesday. You know the drill.
- Show 4: Friday, March 16, 4:30PM to 10PM and Saturday, March 17, 2:30PM to 9PM, EIT 1015. And here it comes. With every show 1, 2 and 3, the arrival of show 4 is preordained. So come out for the exciting conclusion. As usual, there should be an activity and pizza ordered for each dinner break. Schedule is available here.
- Weiss Schwarz Tournament: Saturday, March 17, 11AM, AL 211. This is the real deal, folks. The previous three tournaments have been but a precursor to the exciting final tournament, where the top 3 participants walk away with prizes! Unfortunately, it’s too late to join if you haven’t already, but if you’ve participated in any of the first three tournaments this term, you are eligible! If not, then feel free to drop by and watch the excitement.
That’s your events for this week. And if the final anime show has got you down, don’t fret. We still have several more weeks of events to go, including our special end of term events, anime karaoke and hot pot! So stay tuned; you won’t want to miss them!
Also, here’s a fun game, to the people who read far enough into this post to read this. Post a comment to this news post and you’ll be randomly entered to win a Crunchyroll 48-hour all-access guest pass. As added incentive, comments I deem awesome will be quoted in next week’s news.

Mar 5 Time to Calm Down a Bit?

With the crazy amount of events in the last news post, you probably need a bit of a break to let things sink in. Conveniently, this week is much less hectic. Let’s take a look:
- Cosplay Cafe: Monday, March 5, 11:30AM to 5:30PM, SLC Multi-purpose Room. It’s going on right now! Several of our members are dressed up in costume, and serving a delicious meal featuring Japanese food and drink for a great price. If you’re in the mood for some great food and fun atmosphere, come check us out.
- Monday Meeting: Monday, March 5, 6PM, MC 4063. Regular Monday meeting. Come revel in the bureaucracy.
- Mini-Cosplay Panel: Wednesday, March 7, 6PM to 7PM, SLC 2132. Amy will continue her lessons in the art of cosplay this Wednesday. If you’re curious about cosplay but don’t know where to start, Amy is a great resource, so bring your questions!
- Project Night: Wednesday, March 7, 6PM to 10PM, SLC 2133. Concurrently, project night continues! Come hang out, and maybe bring a project. Please bring a project?
- Games Night: Friday, March 9, 4:30PM, PHY 313. Games night is a night for games! If you enjoy video games (like Mario Kart), card games (Weiss Schwarz) or any sort of game at all, come to games night and be an awesome person.
That’s it for this week. Be sure to come back the following weekend (March 16 & 17) for Show 4!
Also, a friendly reminder that Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 11 at 2AM. Clocks go forward one hour. Exactly what you need during midterms- one less hour.
Enjoy, and godspeed.

Feb 24 These Events are What All True CTRL-A Members Strive For
News

UPDATE: Monday meeting is today (Monday, duh) at 6PM in MC 4063. Full news update to come later.
I hope everyone had a great reading week, and is ready to have some more fun. Because we’ve got more fun than you can shake a stick at. This news post is a bit early because I wanted to tell you about something special this weekend, but will mostly be about next week and the following weekend, and the Monday after that. I hope that’s not too confusing. It’ll make more sense when you see the super-long, super-awesome list of events below. But before that:
- CON-G! Con-G is a really cool anime convention happening in Guelph this weekend (that’s Sat. Feb. 25 and Sun. Feb. 26). Many of CTRL-A’s members will be there, hosting the third edition of the Pokemon Gym Leader Squad! Come out and battle us to win badges and the chance to win bigger prizes! There’s also lots of other great stuff to do, so if you’re looking for a fun time this weekend, look no further. For details, check out their website here.
And right when you’re exhausted from a weekend of conventioning (which is totally a word), CTRL-A is there to pick up the slack. Check it out:
- Monday Meeting: Monday, February 27, 6PM, AL 210. Well, we have to start somewhere. Come to our Monday meeting, where there will likely be planning and discussion of the following events. Please note the alternate room for this meeting.
- Project Night: Wednesday, February 29, 6PM, SLC 2133. Celebrate Leap Day with style! Project night strikes again this Wednesday, so come spend your extra day with CTRL-A!
- “The Secret World of Arrietty” Movie Showing: Thursday, March 1, 6:55PM, Empire Theatres Waterloo. Several of our members will be going to see the new Ghibli film, “The Secret World of Arrietty” in theatres this Thursday. If you want to be on the forefront of all the Ghibliness, be sure to check it out. This Thursday is the last day that the film will be showing here, so don’t miss it!
- Show 3: Friday, March 2, 4:30PM to 10PM, AL 113 and Saturday, March 3, 2:30PM to 9PM, AL 116. Anime is what we do, and we do it well. Come watch a slew of great anime series with us. I heard there will be free pie for members. As usual, we’ll sell pizza and other concessions and have a fun activity during the dinner breaks. Check out the schedule here.
- Weiss Schwarz Tournament: Saturday, March 3, 11AM, AL 211. Of course, with all great anime shows comes the ever-popular Weiss Schwarz tournament. If you aren’t familiar, it may not be too late. Check out our forums for one of the most active English WS communities on the Internet (no, really) and if you would like to join the tournament, post in this thread to let Will know. Join the craze!
- Sushi: Sunday, March 4, 1PM, O’Yummy Sushi. For those who are unfamiliar, the location where we’ll be eating is 646 Erb Street W. Some of our membership will be going out for an awesome sushi meal. If this sounds like something that interests you, definitely come check it out. They always prove to be delicious, and great social experiences.
- Cosplay Cafe: Monday, March 5, 12:30PM to 5:30PM, SLC Multipurpose Room. Several of our members will be dressing up in costume, and serving a delicious meal featuring Japanese food and drink for a great price. If you’re in the mood for some great food and fun atmosphere, come check us out.
You probably think we’re crazy for having so many great events in such a short period of time. While that may be true, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time. Sit back, relax and enjoy the statistical anomaly that is CTRL-A.
