What did you think of the anime we showed this term? (For the record we showed: Kodocha, Full Metal Alchemist, My-HiME, Dai-Guard, Eureka Seven, Gantz, Neia_7, Trouble Chocolate, Kaleido Star, Fantastic Children, Pani Poni Dash, Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, and Samurai 7 at our big shows)
- Seemed good. Gantz has some major pacing problems and I'd be in favour of dropping it.
- glad that most of those animes are done and for the ones still continuing: Kodocha: I don't like this anime. Eureka 7: I don't like this anime either, heard friends say it gets better in the later episodes around 50+? Trouble Chocolate: not my kind of anime. Pani Poni Dash: great anime, I enjoy watching it.
- The anime shown this term were mostly wonderful shows. FMA, Mai-Hime, FMP:The Second Raid, Eureka Seven, Kodocha and Samurai 7 were my favourite shows.
- The anime shown this term were mostly wonderful shows. FMA, Mai-Hime, FMP:The Second Raid, Eureka Seven, Kodocha and Samurai 7 were my favourite shows.
- Though I really liked Nerima Daikon Brothers, I didn't really care about anything else that was shown. I could've just watched NDB at home.
- Loved them
- I liked most of them, sad to see a few of them end, I like to see more of Kodocha and trouble chocolate next term.
- Not fond of Trouble Chocolate. The rest are pretty good, actually.
- I enjoyed most of them. Thank you.
- Of the ones I saw (Mai-Hime, Eureka 7, Pani Poni Dash, FMP, and Samurai 7), they were all pretty good. I found FMP a bit lame maybe cause I didn't see it from the beginning, but you guys got me addicted to Pani Poni Dash, and now I must have it all!!!!! DAMN YOU!!!!!!
- It was good I really enjoyed it.
- liked My-Hime, Eureka, Kaleido Star and Pani Poni Dash. You forgot Diakon Bros.
- Thumbs up for Full Metal Alchemist, My-HiMe, Fantastic Children, Samurai 7.
- FMA is one of my top faves, Samurai 7 is amazing aswell. I'm sory to have missed out on Gantz, as I have seen the first half of the series and desperately want to see the second half! I wish I had found out about your club earlier or I would have showed up for more meetings in order to be able to comment on the rest of this anime!
- My-Hime was awesome and so was Kaleido Star, I laughed so much. I thought Gantz was way too graphic and did not like it at all.
- Nothing really outstandingly good this term. Kodocha was fun, but (given that it's LONG) I'm not sure it's necessary to show any more of it. FMA was probably a must-show because of its popularity, but it's long too. Mai-HIME I could have done without. I liked Dai-Guard as light, fluffy entertainment, but I'm not sure it was well-liked by other members. Eureka Seven and Gantz, I liked. I was surprised that people seemed not to like Gantz, because I thought it was one of our best shows this term. I liked Nieaa_7. Thought Trouble Chocolate was okay. Could have done without Kaleido Star and Fantastic Children. I liked Pani Poni Dash but it was *very* random - and although I usually like ADV VidNotes, I think we might have been better off without them in this case because the show is so fast-paced that it's hard enough to follow the action already without roughly tripling the amount of reading (besides, the characters are cute and it's a shame to hide them behind all those explanation bubbles). VidNotes and PPD without liberal use of freeze frame equals headache. I thought FMP:TSR and Samurai 7 were good.
- I prefer the dub of both Full Metal Alchemist and Trouble Chocolate, but otherwise I was quite satisfied with the shows.
- most of them were great, some with good endings, especially Mai-Hime and Nerima Daikon Brothers
- My-HiME was cool, wish I'd seen the whole thing, without missing huge chunks while away for a term. Eureka Seven was surprisingly interesting. Nerima Daikon Bros. was awesome, especially Yukel Hackson "AUOW!!" Samurai 7 was great, I'm going to find that one so I can see it all. Blue (purple) Submarine 6 was a good watch. Grasshoppa was... yeah... Origin was completely amazing.
- you have selected a good diversity of anime, covering everthing from sho-jo to samuria. It is a well selected line-up.
- I like the wierd, random hyper comedies like Kodocha, Trouble Chocolate and Neia_7. I think maybe they are a little easier to get into that some of the more dramatic anime, but I still love drama. Pani Poni Dash was bizzare and somewhat disturbing at times but I want to see more! I thought I wouldn't like the giant robot shows but I was surprised to find I did. Eureka Seven is better than I expected. Dai-Guard seemed to go no-where story wise and yet I liked it much better than Evangelion. (But then I'd rather bang my head against the wall than watch Eva again.) (Was that trolling?) Fantastic Children: slower paced but well worth it in the long run. One of the few I'd recomend unhesitantly. Kaleido Star: Loved it. More! Samurai 7: Consistantly good throuout. Most shows probably won't be as good as this. FMA: Again, consistantly good considering it's length. I dont' love it as much as the other shows. That stuff about crossing over to our Earth struck me as odd, and I didn't like them loosing their alchemy power, but what can you do? Gantz: I don't mind shows that push the envelope in differnt ways. I would prefer a variety of anime even if some are tough to watch. I don't hate it but I can't say I love it either. Full Metal Panic: Don't love it unreservedly, don't hate it. I like the comedy bits far better than the military bits. I'd watch more.
- didn't get to see them this term, but last term I really liked Samurai 7, Fantastic Children, & Kodocha
- I think some people (such as myself) are turned off by the thought of jumping midway into a new series partway through. The choices of series seemed alright. The only thing I can suggest is to try to show more episodic series, OVAs and movies so that people who don't attend every show can still show up and watch without that feeling that they are missing ther overall story.
In general, what genres or general types of anime would you like to see us show next term? (You may find the following list helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_genre)
- good anime? The standard mix.
- Higurahi (first 2 seasons) School Rumble (first 2 seasons)
- Romance, Comedy, Mecha, Adventure, Mystery, Shoujo, Shounen, Slice of Life, Fantasy.
- Romance, Comedy, Mecha, Adventure, Mystery, Shoujo, Shounen, Slice of Life, Fantasy.
- Don't care
- Any. We pick good ones.
- I generall like fantasy and sci fi genres but I love the comedy genre best, especially if its mixed withthe aforementioned two :D
- Sci-Fi, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Mystery, Absurdist comedy
- comedy, fantasy, action
- Less mecha, more awesome.
- Less doom and gloom. More goofy romance and jiggle.
- Action, adventture, shonen, post apocalyptic, philisophical, magical girlfriend, comedy, the list goes on...
- Mecha! but not Dai-Guard, more like Gundam.
- sports?, good horror, fantasy
- Comedy, Adventure Dubs so bad they loop back around to win. (a la Ghost Stories).
- I like Mecha, but i find a plot is more important than genre.
- Wouldn't mind seeing some sort of historical samurai drama, but I haven't got a particular title in mind
- More strange & surreal series/movies/OVAs. Such as Studio 4c stuff. And sci-fi is always good.

- Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, School Rumble, Great Teacher Onizuka, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Fruits Basket, Shakugan No Shana , Haibane Renmei, Kino's Journey, BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, Full Metal Panic(1st season)
- Don't Care
- Chevalier D'Eon
- Kodocha and Trouble Chocolate! (I should have read down the list before mentioning it earlier) Mai Otome if you could get your hands on it should be great too.
- Generally, I have the most enjoyment viewing titles I'd never heard of / never seen before, so I really don't know what to put here. :P
- Black Lagoon, Hellsing Ultimate, Orphen2, Ah My Goddess tv series, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Claymore, Kaleido Star 2nd season, any Tenchi Muyo, any Slayers, Gun Frontier
- EXCEL SAGA!!!!!!! And maybe Yu Yu Hakusho, .HACK (any of them but preferably //SIGN), and Mai-Otome.
- Do I have to even say Haruhi? Would like to see Paprika and 5cm/sec movies when out on DVD.
- I tried browsing through your list, and it seems that you have yet to show Fate/Stay Night! It's an amazing series that I highly recomend! I don't know if you have wached Air yet either, but it's great. Also check out Gunslinger girls, the Melencholy of Haruhi suzumaiya (lots of spelling errors, and I'm told you are already planning on it), Ah! My Goddess the series (I dunno if you have already/ recently), RahXephon, and... Trigun is epic (but y'all rant about that on your website, so I'm thinking probably no...)
- Death Note
- Show me something I haven't seen before. Show me something I have seen before that's worth seeing again. Show me something I wouldn't have watched if I were just left to my own devices.
- Ergo Proxy, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (dubbed)
- When Cicadas Cry, Mahoujin Guruguru, Kurau Phantom Memory, Hare + Guu, Aria, Claymore
- Dokuro-chan, NailBat decapitations for all! Midori Days (Midori no Hibi)
- Evangellion platinum
- Kamichu, Chevalier D'eon, Mai Otome, Noir, Kanazuki No Miko
Of the anime you listed above, do you know someone we can borrow the series from or some place we could rent it? We prefer DVDs, but we can pull out our Super-VHS Player if we must. Fansubs we could get ourselves, we're looking for high-quality stuff, people.
- Disc 1 of Chevalier and Hellsing the club has. I think Karl has Kamichu. I know that Karl and Matt and probably Nick all have Haruhi.
- No, but I've sent in a list of what anime I have
- No, but it's on the wish list I gave X-treme Play
- I like watching those series mostly because I don't have it myself, I don't have a legal anime collection yet, but I am in the process of obtaining Trigun, Stellvia, and Slayers in the near future
- I have Tenchi In Tokyo tv series, Tenchi GXP tv series, all the Slayers movies and I'm willing to let the club use them.
- I have Mai-Otome fansubs I could lend, but that's the best I can do, sorry :S
- Most of the licensensed stuff I have you have already seen, I've got Trigun (it might be a bootleg, bought it from this sketchy place in China Town NY) which appears to be licensed...
- There is a rental store on Erb Street West that has anime.
- Poor question wording - "fansubs we could get ourselves" implies that that's the only reason not to list them. As far as I know, it's actually our plan not to show fansubs whether we can get them or not.
- Nope, most of those you can only get as fansubs, tho.
- not specifically, but i'm sure you can find eva somewhere
Did you see CTRL-A posters anywhere? If so, please tell us where.
- MC, AL
- on campus
- Engineering, Chemistry, Arts Lecture Hall,MC
- Engineering, Chemistry, Arts Lecture Hall,MC
- SLC, Math, Engineering, Arts
- SLC
- SLC, Also saw them in the CEIT on the days we were showing there, but i don't think that counts. Also I'm not on campus a whole lot.
- Only at the shows themselves.
- comic book stores
- Yes...everywhere...
- saw them in science, engineering, math, and turnkey
- Biology
- I saw a few on them on campus when I ws visiting to use the library, and I saw one at Phoenix Games.
- yup everywhere, MC, Biology Building and SLC.
- Most buildings on campus. Math, Science, Engineering, etc. - I imagine they're in other buildings too but I don't go there often.
- Poster in SLC window. Might have to change it out though, since Samurai 7 ended this term. Kinda faded too.
- old ones in North 3 in V1, MC, DC, Biology, SLC, etc mostly on campus
- In some buildings on campus, the Public bulletin boards on campus paths
- nope
- no, but I wasn't on campus this term (yay co-op).
- Yeah I saw a few posters on boards...can't remember where though.
How else should the club advertise?
- Radio, atUW.ca, Daily Bulletin, the Marquee outside of the SLC, CampusVision, Imprint, mathNEWS
- internet
- Give out flyers on compus to tell people about CTRL-A or let club members tell their friends.
- Give out flyers on compus to tell people about CTRL-A or let club members tell their friends.
- Facebook, Imprint, CTRL-A newsletter, ANime 101
- MathNews?
- I voice my 2 cents at meetings because I actually attend most of them. Doing banner advertising on webcomics could promote interest outside our area, but may not be useful. Also radio and newspaper are great tools for advertising, events if nothing else.
- Imprint, various faculty newspapers (MathNEWS, Iron Warrior)
- Telephone poles
- Word of mouth is best, get people to bring people, particularly the execs. It took me a lot of talking to get my club at Heritage strated up, but it was worth it.
- Facebook is working nicely.
- In ways that will attract the kind of members we actually want. Emphasize social events, not the particular shows we're showing. Hey, what if we just didn't mention our main shows in our advertising at all? What if we ONLY adverised meetings and other fun stuff? And if you think meetings aren't fun, why do we bother having them?
- Maybe if you change the poster on the outside glass of the office... it's at a very noticeable location.
- word of mouth is most effective. An artist alley booth at AN opperated by club members tends to help alot.
- I'm not sure of all the places the club currently advertises, so my suggestions could be redundant, but here goes: Maybe we need to start expanding posters/flyers into shops and places that aren't already associated with anime/comics/fandom etc. Maybe places like Encore Records and book stores in down town Kitchener. Eccentric sort of places. I have no idea if that helps, but that's what I was thinking. I would also think that radio stations (mainstream comercial stations perhaps, not just CKMS) would probably be advisable.
- How about print ads in campus papers? (Imprint, Iron Warrior, etc). I like the idea of web advertising too, perhaps on other club/student association sites.
- More targeted online ads. I can't believe I'm even suggesting this {since I hate both} but make a ctrl-a account/group on myspace and/or facebook.
What did you think about the activities this term? (To remind you we had Anime Jeopardy!, Anime Name That Tune, Anime Talent Kombat, an AMV Contest, and an Art Contest)
- They were good. I was actually surprised by the number of entrants of all of these contests.
- AMV contest and contest was pretty good. Anime jeopardy and name that tune was also not that bad.
- Very impressed!
- Very impressed!
- The events were alright, but participation was low (mostly exec participated). Not quite super-fun, but not crappy either.
- Ultra-Fun. But I'm biased.
- I generally thought the activities were super fun even though i watched more than I participated. XD
- It was enjoyable - better voting this term on the contests than last. Applause-o-meter is generally a bad choice. Super-Fun? Sure. :D
- I liked the AMV and art contests.
- Would have liked more Anime Name That Tune since I missed it, and would have liked the AMV contest to not have conflicted with homework :S
- They were fun and I enjoyed assisting with them.
- Super-Fun! Especially Anime Name that Tune. Group participation is key.
- I wasn't present, but I wish I was, they all sounded great!
- I'm afraid I was unable to see most of these due to work hours.
- They were fun. I was disappointed that we didn't have more voters in the contests at the last show. I think the quality of the results suffered for lack of a large voter base. Remember your STAT 260.
- Superfun. And I mean that.
- most of them were super-fun, i'm sad to have missed half of them~
- AMV contest was fun, don't know if I could have done it if I hadn't had one already on the go.
- sorry, didn't enter any contests
- I think they all made things rather lively. Certainly fun to watch if not actually participating. I did enjoy name that tune even if I didn't do very well, so I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I thought the AMV contest was a great idea and the results were so evenly decent I had trouble voting for only one. The talent competion brought something new to the shows, and I think it was good to make it open-ended and not confined to the usual Karaoke and art and cosplay. I'd like to see more art contests but that's because it's all I'm good at. :) Again I did like the idea of leaving that one open-ended and not just confined to drawings.
- I didn't attend any but they sound fun. I would definately like to participate in the art contest at some point. In fact, have more art contests!! Just have art contests!!!
What kind of activities would you like to see next term?
- Same as above and same as always. In addition, some other game-show knockoffs may be nice (but they're hard to do because they limit the amount of participation)
- same ones
- Anime theme songs singing contest! (lets have it every term!) Cosplay! Anime Skits Contest! (dress up as anime characters and perform skits from animes!)
- Anime theme songs singing contest! (lets have it every term!) Cosplay! Anime Skits Contest! (dress up as anime characters and perform skits from animes!)
- I have a list that I'm too lazy to type up that I'll bring to the meeting.
- More of the same only somewhat different for variety's sake.
- I am looking forward to the annual cosplay contest, but I think an anime slumber party (stay up all night geeking ourselves out) could also be fun.
- More of the same - good stuff.
- Get soem DDR going on, and more AMV's!
- I always like Anime Trivia.
- Ones that involve direct social contact among people.
- Name the anime scene? (show a scene, or a pic of a scene from an anime and identify it?) karaokes are usually good. so was the jeopardy!
- you could try a fan fiction writing contest (it worked well for the FLASH club in guelph)
- More of what was done this term I guess.
- Why not make an animated short? I'm sure there would be some people interested in that. I'm sure with 10 people you could put something decent together...even if its only a few minutes long. I could probably do any and all bg paintings...so really all you would need are some animators, voice actors, and a half decent idea.
How do you think CTRL-A did as an anime club this term?
- Well enough for a University Club. I like the amount and popularity of the Activities.
- I think CTRL-A did a good job I guess this term, then the other term I joined(fall 06).
- Excellent!
- Excellent!
- It's improving, but it still has a long way to go.
- Much better than other terms.
- I think we did better this term than last term. I especially liked the voting system for the amv and art contest activities better this time around (The applausometer last time sucked)
- Quite well.
- Pretty good. I am disappointed we didn't get to see more Full Moon, but overall I enjoyed the whole term. Thank you.
- Not bad. Would have liked more weekend shows and less Wednesday-ness though...
- I think it did well. The attendance for a summer term was not bad and the shows were run well.
- Can't comment seeing as I was only able to attend once at teh end of the term.
- great as usual
- I'm here to make new friends. That didn't really happen this term - at most it could be said that I had some fun with people I already know. So the club didn't offer me what I want; and (being an egotist) I expect others to also want what I want; and so it doesn't surprise me that the membership and participation decline is continuing through this term.
- I had a good time this term, and I can't think of anything about it I didn't like.
- I like where it's going, it's changing positively, albeit maybe a bit slowly, but what can you do.
- just kind of plodding along, nothing amazing.
- you did well (summer terms are always hard). It's nice to see some dubs getting played.
- I've said it in surveys before and I'll say it again: **I'm much more concerned with a positive attitude from the people who are at the shows than with crowd size. I thought I picked up on a positive vibe this term, so I want to encourage that.** Maybe the new activities helped with that, I don't know. Honestly I don't mind the form the shows take now, but I may not be the best to ask about this as I'm not the most sociably able person. I like that I don't really have to be social if I don't want to, and I get to see lots'n'lots of anime for a cheap price, so not too many complaints from me.
- I don't know because I didn't go at all. I work weekends so its nothing against the club. I'll try to go next term though. :)
If you think we're doing badly, how can we improve? If you think we're doing well, how can we keep it up?
- Let's go status quo? Nah. I think we need enthusiasm and fun. One of the best ways to get that is a wholesale turnover of the exec. Push everyone in leadership roles to the back burners (Ecomm, Web, Concession) so that they're far enough away to not be a bother but close enough to give advice. Open up the way for enthusiastic people coming into the club for the first time. Maybe keep the President as an 'old-guard' type so that administration doesn't bog people down.
- I was wondering how much does Campus pizza cost? theres like 9 slices in a pizza so 5x3=$15 and if you sell leftover pizza for $1 each is it possible to make it 3 slices $4 and left over $1 each? If not then never mind.
- Keep it up with the good work and perhaps more shows in the future will be great!
- Keep it up with the good work and perhaps more shows in the future will be great!
- To improve, we need to draw in new blood, and work hard to really think about what as a club it is that we should do.
- Bring in more volunteers.
- We need volunteers, and people to show up to meetings. We also need a way to demolish apathy that has run rampant in our club.
- More early-week shows since assignments (for me at least) tend to be due on Friday so I take Monday and Tuesday off. Also a better room would be nice (ALH 116 was nice when RMS came to talk if you could get that for the big shows)...the chairs in EIT get uncomfortable after sitting in them for more than an hour straight...
- see above answer.
- everything is good :)
- I think we need to stop having large must-see shows. Maybe the current thinking of cutting down to three large must-see shows and making them shorter while adding small weekday shows will help, but I doubt it; I think in order to really work it has to go all the way. The current plan as I understand it is to basically keep the current system except make it suck more. I think we need an actually new system. Similarly, I don't think anyone knows whether we're going to keep to our current practice of showing entire series, and never showing a series again after we've shown it once. I hope the answer is "no" but I expect that the answer is "yes". Showing entire series means that if you missed the start or won't be around for the end, then why bother watching? It's a problem for new members and a problem for co-op students, neither of which we can really afford to alienate. It also means that any show we decide to show had better be good, because once it's on the schedule, it's almost impossible to remove no matter how much it sucks. And it means that many fine shows are arbitrarily off our radar because they're long and we can't afford to commit to long shows. I'd rather see all samplers all the time, repeats allowed. Then it wouldn't matter if a lot of them sucked or just weren't to my taste, and it wouldn't matter if I'd come to the previous show or planned to come to tbe next show - I'd still get something from every show no matter my commitment level.
- I think things are going well here. People are friendly, the anime is good, and I feel like I can get involved when I can.
- good ideas came out of this term, like the new activities, and more weekly showings, but things just aren't well-known enough.
- Really need a 'hook' to get people in. I don't know what, but you need to get more people, or more active people, and put on high quality shows.
- it is important to listen to the members and roll with the punches, it looks like you'ra already doing that.
- Thinking up acitvities that haven't been done before--like the ones we did this term--that get people going are what I think should continue. Build on what appears to be working.
- You seem to be doing fine...but I really have no idea. I'm actually kind of surprised the club has lasted as long as it has...considering I went to my first show about 12 years ago! So you must be doing something right.
