So I don't read much manga but watch a ton of anime. I am aware that some anime is abruptly halted even though the manga keeps going. So far only one anime has been so blisteringly good for me that I've continued on in the manga and that was berserk. Does anyone have suggestions for manga or material to read that makes an anime much more rewarding for having watched?
For example I was considering...
I've seen Karekano, so I might read the manga to see the finale
Under that theme I might read trigun, or the Haruhi light novels
Any good experiences with this one?
Gundam Side Stories!!! =D
Crossbone Gundam X
Gundam Astray (and all the continuations)
I recomend Astray, since there are a bit of comedy thrown in
it's not that there are manga continuations of anime, cause i'm sure you're well aware that most mangas come before the anime
it's that most producers are aware that not everybody will follow and anime that NEVER ENDS. so a lot of studios and animators create an ending for the anime, while the manga-ka continues on with his/her own manga story.
and to add to that, if you've seen Chobits, i recommend reading the manga, cuz the ending gets explained
most of clamp's animes have variations on their mangas, so for me, it's like reading an omake or something slightly different. they have a totally different ending for Angelic Layer too.
To add to Gundam Stories, there's Ecole du Ciel which I really love (the unit Le Clyne). Other than that, does FMA count cuz the anime did track away from the manga series.
The Haruhi light novels are a riot to read if you like reading.
The Negima manga is ongoing while the first series died...
The last Love Hina volume brings things full circle...
Oh right. The RoD manga (both versions) actually EXPLAIN things about the series... a must if you like the series.
Akamatsu-sensei's work always seems so much better than his animes. I would read his mangas over watching his animes anyday. the art is jus so much more aesthetic and you can tell her put more work into them. his animes always seems like the producers don't have enough money, which may be the case
@ アレックス君 Agreed!
And of course CLAMP's latest project Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, as the manga is way better than the anime x.X;;
I've seen Karekano, so I might read the manga to see the finale
Yeah, the KareKano anime started out pretty good, but the ending few eps are just... crap. Need to read the manga.
Fruits Basket. The ending of the anime doesn't resolve much, and some characters are un-introduced (the horse Rin and the bird Kureno). The manga goes on and explains a lot more. But it's also somewhat darker and more messed up in a way XD
man, i hated the furuba anime ending. it was so frustrasting! it left u going, "that's it? that's the end????"
Chrno Crusade's anime also had a disappointing ending, i dunno how the manga ended tho. i expected to see another season or maybe an OVA. but NOTHING!
