Finding Us

The University

CTRL-A is a club at the University of Waterloo. The University of Waterloo is located at 200 University Avenue West, Waterloo Ontario [here]. We're assuming you can get directions from google maps to get to the University because, honestly, we sometimes get lost worse than Ryoga on a bad day, so giving you directions would be like some appropriate simile I should put in here.

Shows!

We're usually in Arts Lecture room 116 (AL 116). Arts Lecture is a squat, white, bunker-like building across the quad from the Dana Porter Library, the tall, white, bunker-like building that looks kinda like a ten-story-tall sugar cube on stilts. Not to be confused with Modern Languages, the squat, brown, bunker-like building down the steps from Dana Porter. Room 116 is pretty hard to miss, especially when a show's on, so we'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.

If we're not in AL 116, we're either in RCH 101 or CEIT 1015. RCH is the building that used to look like a submarine but now kinda just looks like a curvy brick monster that is east of Dana Porter. It has maps inside, so finding 101 is pretty easy. However, the seats in RCH 101 have been deemed too uncomfortable for hours of anime watching, so our new Plan B haunt was chosen with comfort in mind.

CEIT is one of the newer buildings on campus nestled between Physics, Earth Sciences, and the DC. It is fashioned out of brick coloured an unattractive shade of yellow and contains the dinosaur exhibit, as well as the not-to-scale model of the great lakes. The sinage is worse in here, and so is the floorplan, so I don't know if I could help myself get there let alone you, humble reader. You're on your own.

The above descriptions are probably not terribly useful on their own, so you can try this campus map that is also rather unhelpful on its own. All else fails, bug an exec or message the forum for further details!

The Club Office

We have an office (SLC 2112) in the Student Life Centre building on campus, which is the squat building between the Physical Activities Complex Monstrosity and the CS sculpture in front of the Math and Computers bunker. Talk to the helpful people behind the Turnkey Desk to figure out where that is. Be certain to check our Office Hours (announced on the front page around the beginning of each term) to make certain someone's in there to meet you. Or you can always just contact us.

Parking

Parking at UW is a complex and uncomfortable experience. However, if you're stuck looking for a place to park, we have a couple of hints. One is trying to find a place under Needless Hell (the administrative building) or in the South Visitor's lot right off University. Either will cost you three bucks, but will put you within easy walking distance of Arts Lecture. The next tip is for weekends: occasionally Renison or St. Jerome's will open up their lots for free on weekends. Finding where these are and when they're available is an art I'm not familiar with, so I'll just pass it on as a rumour that you can investigate further.

Bus!

If you're a poor student-type or were fortunate enough to get this far in life without an internal combustion monstrosity, you might be arriving in the area by bus. Long-distance-wise, if you're coming from Toronto, a bus leaves for Waterloo every hour or two and will take 1.5-2.5 hours to get here (depending on whether it is an express or whether it goes through Cambridge or Guelph). Once here, your best bet to get to campus is to take the 7e or 7d. Same goes to those of you who are coming to campus from the north or south. If you're coming from the West, you might get lucky with a 12 going along Keats Way, otherwise, you've probably come up with your own tricks to get to UW. Routes and Schedule information are available for both Greyhound Canada (long distance) and Grand River Transit (local).
