Summer 2008

My name is Amanda Miller and I was CTRL-A's President for the Summer Term of 2008! This term we had a fantastic time, did a lot of things and I'm proud of the way our team took care of it all.

We had four exec shows on Friday nights only. We watched Strawberry Marshmallow, Starship Operators, Fate/Stay Night and Someday's Dreamers. All of the 'S' shows started at 1, and Fate/Stay Night started at 15. We managed to finish off all of them and people seemed to enjoy themselves. Pizza runs were fairly successful at these shows.

To deal with the fact that Fate/Stay Night was at episode 15 from last term, at the beginning of this term we held two catch up nights. The first for episodes 1-8, the second for episodes 9-16 (as it had occurred after the first Friday show, due to scheduling around Anime North, if I recall correctly). The first was very popular. The second wasn't, however those that needed to see it, saw it and everyone was pleased with the solution to 'carry-over' anime.

Volunteer shows were pulled off fairly well. Adam's show drew in approximately 10-12 participants each time, and WAFL night brought around 8. Adam showed Peacemaker, Slayers, Moon Phase, The Third, Death Note, Beast Wars, Yumeria, Star Ocean Ex, Stellvia, Dragon Slayer, Tenchi Muyo, Bastard. WAFL Night's line up included Jubei-Chan, Jubei-Chan 2, Prince of Tennis, Get Backers, Saiyuki, Hikaru no Go, A Little Snow Fairy Sugar and Bottle Fairy. People seemed to really enjoy the smaller shows.

Kyle also held consistent office hours! Go Kyle!

We had quite a few events this term! We decided at the beginning of the term that at each general meeting we would hold a game, or some sort of activity. The games were really popular. The panel idea that my VP Kyle had was...not so much. People didn't want to stick around for it, it was disappointing. We did not do LaserQuest this term as we had decided we probably wouldn't get the numbers so it wasn't a worthy venture for the club. Myself and Mo hosted Karaoke Night which was a huge hit, about 18 people came out and everyone had a blast. I also put on Game Extravaganza, on a Sunday afternoon to kill some time and get people having fun. We had a turn out of 8, not bad for a holiday weekend and everyone enjoyed it.

We had one Saturday lunch and we have (as of this writing) one Sushi lunch planned for next weekend. People wanted more of this.

Let's talk survey results. Those we've received - people were pretty happy with this term, they liked the activities offered and they'd like to see them again. I'm very glad for it.

Some of the concerns of the exec were permissions for R2 DVDs. We decided not to go for it this term, but if we got a yes from a company in Japan, we would proceed. If we heard nothing we would not. Everything in the office was cataloged, so next term a library can be truly started, things to lend to our members as long as the shows aren't being used for volunteer/exec shows. One concern to be looked at is lending the projector. We had two requests this term and perhaps we should have some sort of policy/rental in place for it. There was also a lot of concern over Zip.Ca costs, but at the beginning of the term we cut them in half. Another concern was addressed about the concession stand Adam runs, and it was implied that perhaps not everything is smooth with permissions. I feel these things deserve notice by the exec next term.

All in all, a great term. I'd like to thank my exec, especially Kyle, Mo and Peter, who really helped make sure everything happened with as few hitches as possible!
