Summer 2007

My name is Chris H-C and I was the President of CTRL-A for Summer 2007 (as well as the year of 2006). I ended back up in the President spot as the conservative candidate, and I think the term went well, don't you?

As this was a Summer term, we saw attendance hit a low point, but surprisingly it seemed to have rebounded a bit from last year. This is partly due to the tireless efforts of the exec to put on well-publicized great shows with amazing activities, and partly due to a group of about ten people who wandered into Show 2 and were happy to sit down and just watch some anime as a group of friends.

But back to the tireless efforts. This term we had Kate as our Activities Coordinator running on the platform of activities that would be Super Fun. And Boy Howdy, were they ever. At Show 2 we had the second Anime Name That Tune; Show 3 had Anime Talent Kombat, where the usual talent of Karaoke was expanded upon to include stand-up comedy and song-and-dance routines; and Show 4 had an Art and an AMV contest, both of which were very well participated in.

Of course, none of these events would've gotten the attention they deserved had it not been for Bessie working Publicity and James on External Relations. They, along with Jonathan our E-comm and Web Officer, made sure the word got out.

Once again we were glad of Karl in the Treasurer spot. Still haven't pushed all of the paperwork through, but we got a little more of it squirrelled away now. Jeanette as Secretary made sure we were all on the same page (har har). Peter ran several successful pizza runs as Concession Manager, and Matt helped us round off the Officer cadre.

Lastly but certainly not leastly we all appreciated Nick's efforts to try and shape the club in a new direction by hosting Dub Nights on Thursdays and working hard on the legislative process. He also made sure the big shows had everything they needed in order to be the successes that they were.

On the legislative front, we agreed to tone down the Big Shows in favour of increasing freedom for smaller shows in the middle. From four two-day extravaganzas, we've gone to three Friday Night specials. Plus a host of other stuff, if people are willing to go for that. I know I am. Also, we've tried out a couple of new advertising angles to get the word out that CTRL-A is the place to be if you like anime. Especially if you Really Like Anime :)

All in all, a great term, even as a term of preparation for Fall and even with the loss of Gemini Jetpack. We'll see what the next four months brings.
