Fall 1993

We made our first outing at a U of W Clubs Day, and throughout the term continued our previous success of an open show, followed by two members-only shows. All were held in AL 116.

In the beginning of October the local repertoire theatre, the Princess Street Cinema, showed Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, and we felt we had a duty to show the world the kinder 98% of Anime. We unanimously decided to shift the focus of our next show, the second of the term, from the action-violence theme night we had planned, to something with broader appeal. We then set our third show up to be a presentation of the best of Anime alternatives to Overfiend and its ilk. This show was comprised of four of the works of Hayao Miyazaki -- Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Fortress in the Sky, and The Crimson Pig (Porco Rosso). Time restrictions prevented us from showing My Neighbour Totoro, and The Castle of Cagliostro had just been shown at the previous showing.

We had another successful group order, and Mark Ng continued his talented production of posters. New faces started to appear at the club meetings, including Larry Porter (a.k.a. "Rally"), and several Watsfic Members. During this term, due to the commencement of renovation and construction work on the Campus Centre (the now-Student Life Centre), we were also forced to move the normal place of our club meetings. We went from CC 138 to MC 1056 temporarily, and then permanently to MC 4044.
