David de Jong convinced Mark Tilden to put on a larger show, despite some reservations he had developed after previous experiences with immature audiences. The new show lasted six hours, with multiple features, and more variety. We showed Prefectural Earth Defence Force, and Black Magic M-66, among others. We tried to give a good mix of quality Action, Comedy, and Drama. Though Mark provided the material and hosted the show, it was David and two of his friends, Richard Betel, and Andrea Sykes who gathered the audience. We advertised a day or two in advance with fliers. David also wrote an article for the local student newspaper, the Imprint, about the history and appeal of Anime, and about our upcoming show.
The room we used was believed to seat 90 people normally. During our show, not only was every seat occupied, but so was every step up and down the aisles, as well as most of the standing room at the back. Members of the audience at the back may have left over the course of the show, but many newcomers took their places. We believe that easily 150 people attended over the evening.
At the end of this show we took down the names, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses (for those who had them) of people interested in forming a club.
We eventually held an organizational meeting just before our exams at which we showed a little bit of anime to make sure people would come. We tried to cement a core group of people interested in helping form the club. It was at this point that Bret Hoeffler brought his enthusiasm to our efforts.
